NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. financial stocks rose on Thursday as broad gains in most industries offset concentrated loss in the insurance sector.
Gainers included real estate management firm CB Richard Ellis (CBG) , CME Group Inc. (CME) , Plum Creek Timber (PCL) and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) .
Shares of insurers MBIA Inc (MBI) , Allstate (ALL) , Prudential (PRU) and Hartford Financial (HIG) all fell.
The Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) , which tracks the financial stocks in the S&P 500, added 0.9% in early trade.
