Sellers of indexed annuities are both preparing to implement a new U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission decision to regulate the products as securities and are developing strategies to fight it, judicially or politically.
Industry representatives and regulators expressed disappointment with the SEC decision, but also said they have been preparing for it ever since the commission announced its proposal six months ago.
