Tongue-in-cheek ad pitches reform



Funnyman Will Ferrell and other Hollywood celebrities want you to join in the fight to protect insurance company profits.

At least that’s what they say in a spoof public service announcement that satirizes the need for health care reform in the United States.

“People are saying a lot of mean things about health insurance companies and their executives and it’s got to stop,” actor Thomas Lennon says in the black-and-white montage.

“These great businessmen are American heroes,” actress Linda Cardellini says.

“So then why is Obama trying to reform health care when insurance companies are doing just fine making billions of dollars in profit?” Mr. Ferrell asks.

“Insurance companies need our support because they keep our selfish priorities in check when we can’t,” Ms. Cardellini replies. The 2.5 minute video ends with a call for a public health insurance option.





This is not the first time that comedy video Web site Funny or Die Inc. has enlisted Hollywood to get across a political message.

“Prop 8: The Musical” starring Jack Black, Neil Patrick Harris, Margaret Cho and others, last year satirized efforts to ban gay marriage in California.
