New York State Insurance Department releases 2008 Annual Ranking of Automobile Insurance Complaints

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York State Insurance Department (NYSID) has released its Annual Ranking of Automobile Insurance Complaints and Mercury Insurance tops the list with the fewest number of complaints. The report provides consumers with a convenient tool to help select an auto insurer based on its complaint ratio. Companies with the fewest complaints per million dollars of premium appear at the top of the list, while those with the highest complaint ratios appear at the bottom.

Complaint ratios are determined by the number of complaints upheld as a percentage of an insurer's private passenger auto insurance business and calculated using an average of two years' premium data.
