NASHVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 26 -- The office of Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., issued the following news release:
U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement about a Kaiser Family Foundation study that finds premiums for families have risen by $672 in the past year, and by $2,370 since 2009: "What American family can afford this kind of reform? Congress needs to repeal this law and move step-by-step to enact common-sense reforms that lower health care costs."
Alexander was asked by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and then-House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) to represent Republicans at a summit at the White House in Feb. 2010 to discuss the president's proposed health-care law. He warned President Obama that premiums for millions of Americans with individual insurance would rise under the president's proposal.
