DANA POINT, Calif., Oct. 30 -- The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America issued the following news release:
The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) elected new officers to its Board of Governors today during the association's Annual Meeting. Jonathan E. Michael, Chairman and CEO of RLI, was elected as PCI's chair; Robert P. Restrepo, President, Chairman and CEO, of State Auto Insurance Companies, was elected first vice chair and Terrence W. Cavanaugh, President and CEO of Erie Insurance Group, was elected second vice chair.
"The property casualty insurance industry faces tremendous challenges at the state, federal, and international levels," said David A. Sampson, president and CEO of PCI. "As the industry's thought leader, PCI will draw upon the keen insight of our newly elected Board as we pursue our mission of promoting and protecting the viability of a competitive private insurance market. Their leadership will be invaluable to our advocacy efforts as we address soaring no fault auto insurance costs, coastal and natural catastrophe reforms, federal corporate tax reform initiatives, regulatory modernization, reauthorization of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, and workers compensation issues."

Jonathan Michael is the chairman and CEO of RLI. Since joining RLI in 1982, he has held various positions, including president and chief operating officer, executive vice president, and chief financial officer. He previously was associated with Coopers & Lybrand and is a CPA. In addition to being chairman of the RLI Corp. Board of Directors, Michael serves on the board of investment management software maker SS&C Technologies Holdings, Inc. as well as sunglass manufacturer Maui Jim, Inc. He is also on the Marshall County State Bank Board of Directors and is a member of Ohio Dominican University'sBoard of Trustees.

Bob Restrepo was appointed chairman and CEO of the State Auto Insurance Companies in February, 2006, and president in March, 2006. He has a broad and deep background in the property casualty insurance industry, encompassing both national and regional companies. His varied experience includes senior executive roles at Aetna, Travelers, Hanover, and most recently with Main Street America Group in Jacksonville, Florida. A graduate of Yale University, Restrepo also serves on a number of industry and community boards including the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI), Insurance Information Institute (III), the Columbus Partnership, the Columbus (Ohio) Chamber of Commerce, the Columbus College of Art Design (CCAD) and Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited (NEIL).
Terrence W. Cavanaugh - PCI Second Vice Chair

Terrence W. Cavanaugh serves as president and chief executive officer of Erie Insurance. He joined ERIE in 2008 after a distinguished 33-year career with the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies. He began his career as a bond underwriter for Chubb Surety in 1975 after graduating from the University of Notre Dame. Cavanaugh progressed through a variety of positions with increasing responsibility in Chubb's property/casualty business, serving as chief marketing officer and Chubb Surety's chief operating officer, a position he held until joining ERIE in July 2008. Cavanaugh currently serves on the Board of Governors of Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI). In addition to PCI, he is on the board of the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership, Mercyhurst University, Saint Vincent Health System, the United Way of Erie County, and the American Institute for CPCU and Insurance Institute of America.
