Two companies that work closely with the trucking industry will sponsor the overall winner categories of the Best Fleets to Drive For contest and survey, hosted by the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) and CarriersEdge. Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and risk advisor, will sponsor the Best Overall Fleet for Owner Operators award, while Bose Corporation, manufacturer of the award-winning Bose Ride® system for heavy-duty trucks, will sponsor the Best Overall Fleet for Company Drivers award.
CarriersEdge, a provider of online driver training systems, conducted the survey for TCA. The evaluation process scored fleets against a broad range of criteria reflecting current human resources best practices. Twenty winners are identified and then sorted into two categories — those employing company drivers and those that utilize the services of owner operators. The highest scoring fleets in each of these areas are singled out for recognition as the Best Overall winner in that category.
The names of the two overall winners will not be disclosed until TCA’s Annual Convention, March 3-6, 2013, at the Wynn Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, both winners will come from the pool of 20 Best Fleets winners that TCA previously announced.
Since 2013 marks the fifth year for the Best Fleets program, special activities are being planned during the convention. For the first time, a representative from each of the winning companies will be on stage for the awards ceremony during the Tuesday morning general session. Afterward, a special networking event will take place at the exhibit hall. Representatives from all winning companies over the past five years have been invited to take a group photo and share innovative best practices with each other.
Mark Langer, managing director and transportation practice leader for Marsh, said, “For several years now, our company has had the privilege of being involved with Best Fleets to Drive For, and during that time, we’ve seen some truly dynamic driver programs. When all the past winners are together in the same place, it will be a fantastic opportunity to foster inspiration and the exchange of creative ideas. After all, innovation is what this program is all about!”
Bose is getting involved with the Best Fleets program for the first time.
“Bose shares a common passion with the companies nominated in the Best Fleets to Drive For program: a commitment to improving the quality of life for long-haul drivers,” said Mike Rosen, Bose Ride® chief engineer and general manager. “It’s important to celebrate fleets that lead by example in providing an exceptional workplace environment and doing their utmost for driver wellness, particularly as the industry faces a severe driver shortage. The Best Fleets recognize the critical need to attract and retain a healthy and productive driver base, and we are privileged to participate in recognizing them.”
One of the most important elements of Best Fleets to Drive For is the survey data that it reveals. As CarriersEdge discovers carrier success stories in areas such as benefits, professional development, driver and community support, safety record, and company culture, it will compile these best practices and widely publicize them in the hopes of inspiring other fleets and raising the bar for the entire trucking industry.
