It took the kids a couple of practice runs before they recorded the song, said singer and survivor
Of course, recording with world-class studio musicians helped.
DelVecchio got involved with the group last year when he volunteered to play drums with the kids where they used drumsticks to "beat" cancer. He took to the cause and soon after become its executive vice president of development.
When DelVecchio asked fellow musicians
"You can't say no to these kids," said Pickering, of Redhook, N.Y., who played acoustic guitar during the session. "Knowing what these kids have gone through and are going to go through is emotional. It was hard to be there, but then it was a beautiful moment."
The foundation covers what insurance doesn't, including costs to find a donor, and travel and lodging expenses for family members, said Guedes. "Regardless of a child's financial situation, we want all kids who need a transplant to have access to one without delay."
Pediatric patients come from
"Being around so many kids struggling is little bit sad," said Barnes. "But we had a blast doing it. The song is very uplifting."
