"Ben hitting that ball to third, that brings in two runs and makes it 4-2," Williams said. "That was a very big hit. And Logan's was the cherry on top."
LaCross came into the game hitting .275 with nine RBIs. It was his first triple of the season.
"Logan came up with a big triple at the end there that he's totally capable of doing," said Lakers coach
Waning labored a bit early, needing 58 pitches to get through the first three innings.
"The first three innings, I guess the adrenaline was pumping a little too much and I couldn't find the zone," Waning said. "I was moving around a little bit and I wasn't getting the calls I usually do. But you've got to persevere and get through things."
After that, he put it in cruise control, tossing four consecutive 1-2-3 innings and needed less than 10 pitches in each.
He struck out six, which was the first start of the season in which he didn't reach double-digits in whiffs.
"Defense was huge," Waning said. "I didn't have a ton of strikeouts because they're a very strong team. Everybody in their order is the same, top to bottom. There wasn't very much of a difference between the one and nine hitter. They were hitting me a little, but not a ton."
Williams walked in each of his first three plate appearance, scoring the first two times.
