School board approves sale to church of Alexander Young

"Our goal is to begin to remodel and modernize it as best we can, not to make it luxurious, but to make it more like a church," Cotton said.

Cotton described the church as a "relevant charismatic" Protestant church, meaning they aim to relate worship to the every day lives of parishioners. He hopes "folks will step up" and help pay for the remodel in stages.
First on the list of improvements is to repave the blacktop parking lot, which is full of chuckholes, he said. Next on the list is renovation of the foyer and the sanctuary in the building, constructed in 1957.
Also on the list: to make adult bathrooms out of child-sized bathrooms. "The ladies will like that," said Cotton, adding the men would, too.

Education officials hope to use the funds toward capital construction of long-range facilities and projects, which are being studied by the district.
"Everybody is kind of in need for funds these days and the school district is no different than us," Cotton said. "It's a good story."
