Series-bound Slammers beat Berlin for regional title

Pitching in relief for the Rochester Slammers, Scahill found herself in a jam in the top of the seventh inning against the Berlin Bobcats in the Babe Ruth 16U state tournament final. But her teammates had spotted her a large lead, so Scahill was able to breathe easily, and the host Slammers held on for a 6-2 win and the regional championship at
"I was pretty nervous, but I knew that we had a pretty decent lead on them," Scahill said. "I knew we could pull out of it with our great defense."

The Slammers did most of their damage in the third inning, but picked up a crucial pair of runs in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead into the final frame. The insurance came in handy as the first three Berlin batters reached base.
The Bobcats scored twice to cut
"We told her before she went out to just go out there and finish strong," coach Provencher said. "Like she had all weekend. She did a nice job."
"We knew we had already beaten them, but we didn't take them easy at all," Dias said. "I know that sometimes when that happens we tend to fall short, but today we played really well."

Back-to-back errors by the Slammers and an infield hit by Shaeleigh Valliere loaded the bases for Berlin in the top of the seventh. <person>Meagan Accardi scored on a wild pitch, but Scahill retired the next two batters on a ground out and a fly out.
"I'm excited for the World Series," Scahill said, her smile stretching from ear to ear.
