Nearly 300 local advocates attended the resource fair, panel discussion and community dialogue session to raise awareness about improving mental-health care locally and across the state and nation.

Hopper said stigma continues to cloud public perception.
Hopper said more events like Changing Minds are needed to help raise the comfort level for discussions.
"There is a real effort on the part of insurance companies and third-party payers to really limit the cost paid for all of these different services, so what we see is it gets harder for individuals to find places to go to get services and also to get an adequate level of services," he said. "But we do have success stories, like this event. It's good for getting the general public involved in getting into the discussion ... and when we start to come together, we lessen the stigma of mental illness and treatment. And I think, ultimately, we all benefit."
