Ex-agent Charged With Embezzling $61K From Oklahoma Farm Bureau
A former Tulsa Oklahoma Farm Bureau agent was charged Thursday with embezzling more than $61,000 from the insurance agency over the course of two years.
Michael Winston Hefner, 47, faces 15 counts of embezzlement on allegations that he took a combined $61,149.90 from Oklahoma Farm Bureau between 2013 and 2015, according to court documents.
While most of the amounts of money Hefner is accused of taking are in the $1,000 to $2,000 range, in some instances he's accused of taking more than $10,000 at a time.
Prosecutors allege that he embezzled $11,964 from the agency in 2014 and $13,400 in 2015.
Representatives from Oklahoma Farm Bureau couldn't be reached for comment late Thursday, but court records from several indebtedness lawsuits filed against Hefner in 2011 and 2013 indicate that at least as recently at January 2015, Hefner was employed with the insurance agency.
A judge authorized garnishments from Hefner's employer, Oklahoma Farm Bureau, in those lawsuits for debts owed to Capital One Bank, Saint Francis Health System and two buyers of charged-off debt.
Oklahoma Department of Insurance records show that Hefner's insurance license expired in August 2015.
